La Roque is a Gironde château set on a site fortified since the Middle Ages. After its acquisition in 1639 by Henri du Mas, an advocate at the Bordeaux Parliament, the estate developed around wine growing and stone quarrying. The present building dates from the 1880s, when architect Alphonse Blaquière redesigned it as an L-shaped structure with colonnaded galleries and pavilions facing a terrace. Listed as a historic monument, the château overlooks the Dordogne and preserves 18th-century gardens of notable character, defined by terraced levels, a belvedere and a water garden.
