Standing above the Dordogne valley in the Fronsac wine region, this sixteenth-century château in La Rivière, Gironde, was built from 1553 by Gaston de l'Isle, mayor of Bordeaux, on a promontory that had already held a Carolingian watchtower. It was restored in the nineteenth century under an architect trained by Viollet-le-Duc. The estate covers around a hundred hectares, most of them under vine, and served as a filming location for the 2024 movie Cocorico.
