What the French Ministry of Culture records

La famille de la Roche fut propriétaire de Rigney du 11e au 14e siècle. En 1392, le moulin est mentionné ; il a été modernisé dans le dernier quart du 19e siècle. Au 16e siècle, la famille de Plaine reconstruisit le logis. Après la Révolution, le domaine fut acheté par le comte de Scey qui y établit une sucrerie en 1811. Etablissement d'une fromagerie en 1847. En 1854, M. Faucompré acquit le domaine et le transforma en exploitation moderne, puis fonda en 1869 une ferme-école qui dura jusqu'au début du 20e siècle. Le château est un ensemble concerté de bâtiments formant trois cours. A l'intérieur du logis, sont conservés la chapelle, des plafonds à la française et plusieurs cheminées à hotte. De l'aile est subsistent le soubassement voûté et la tour du pigeonnier. Le bâtiment de dépendances sud-ouest comportait la fromagerie. Le bâtiment d'étables et grange conserve en partie sa disposition "moderne" à trois compartiments transversaux de deux rangs d'animaux et fenil au-dessus. Du moulin subsistent le barrage et le canal en partie, le bâtiment du moulin proprement dit avec son matériel.
