What the French Ministry of Culture records

Château construit au 16e siècle, à l'emplacement d'un édifice féodal, par Guillaume des Roches qui avait la surveillance des travaux du château de Chambord. Le pont-levis et la galerie située près de l'entrée ont été détruits vers 1828. Le château se compose d'une avant-cour entourée de murs et bordée par les communs en briques et pierres. De là se fait l'accès dans l'enceinte rectangulaire du château, entouré sur les quatre faces de douves. Au fond se dresse le corps de logis principal, en briques et pierre, avec fenêtres à meneaux aux chapiteaux Renaissance. Une lanterne carrée se dresse sur la toiture, abritée par une pyramide que surmonte un campanile portant un dauphin en girouette. Sur la droite, un autre corps de logis porte la caractéristique du règne de Louis XII. Dans l'angle sud-est de l'enceinte se trouve un pavillon abritant la chapelle. En dehors de l'enceinte s'élève le colombier, contenant 1600 cases dont l'accès se fait par une échelle tournante.
