The château de la Ménaudière stands in Chissay-en-Touraine, in the Loir-et-Cher, on the remains of a stronghold raised around 1443, of which the fortified gate and parts of the curtain walls still survive. The present main building dates from the early 16th century, and two square corner pavilions along with reworked moats were added at the end of that century. Around 1650 the lord François Gaillard had the château extended in matching style, and a further wing was built in 1898. The estate, now privately owned, reflects the Renaissance architecture of the Touraine region.
