To make a day of it

Château de la Chaussière stands in Vieure (Allier), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 19th century). Adult admission costs 7 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

At Vieure, in the Allier department, the château de la Chaussière stands on a rise overlooking the surrounding countryside, facing the road to Ygrande. Built in the late 19th century for a member of the Riant family, it combines neo-Gothic elements with the decorative spirit of Louis XIII style houses beneath tall slate roofs, its façades playing with brick, stone and slate. A visit reveals the chapel with its pentagonal apse, the corner turret topped with a pepper-pot roof, and inside a spiral staircase of medieval inspiration along with a gallery featuring an oversized fireplace.
