Château de Joyeux stands in Joyeux (Ain), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 19th century, first quarter of the 20th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In Joyeux, in the Ain department, this château built between 1897 and 1902 owes its architecture to a landscape designer, Henri Duchêne, in what was his only built project. His collaboration with Fernande Eynard, wife of the commissioning owner Georges de Meillet-Montessuy, produced carefully worked interiors: an entrance hall with a wrought-iron staircase, stone fireplaces designed by the architect, and a drawing room with plant-themed stucco decoration. The 200-hectare park, fifteen of which are landscaped, opens onto the surrounding countryside through four composed vistas, and the north and south flower beds were laid out in the 1920s by Achille Duchêne, Henri's son.

What to know

The château has been a classified historic monument since 2009, a protection covering the whole built and unbuilt estate.
The interior cannot be visited freely: guided tours are reserved for groups of at least ten people, by reservation.
