The château de Bissieux stands in the centre of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne, set within a nine-hectare wooded park. Built at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries as a farm and later a hunting lodge for riders coming from Lyon, Mâcon or Bourg-en-Bresse, it later became the country residence of Lyon families who gave it its present shape, flanked by two slender towers. Its opus spicatum façade, made of brick and local pebbles, remains one of the building's notable features. Now run as a bed-and-breakfast with an adjoining gîte, it is not open to the public as a heritage site but welcomes guests within its restored walls.
