To make a day of it

Château du Plantay stands in Le Plantay (Ain), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument. The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

On the edge of the Grand Châtel pond, west of the village of Le Plantay, stands a circular brick tower dating from the 14th century, the sole surviving trace of a fortified castle founded around 1305 by the knight Hugues du Plantay. The building, partly destroyed by fire in 1460 during conflicts involving the Duke of Bourbon's troops, still retains this keep and an adjoining structure, comparable to other round towers found elsewhere in the Dombes region, such as Montellier or Chavagneux. The site has been owned by the Communauté de Communes de la Dombes since 2024.
