To make a day of it

Château de l'Ardoise stands in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin (Loiret), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de l'Ardoise stands in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, in the Loiret, overlooking the Loire valley, on the site of an earlier 16th century fortified house whose defensive tower, 16 metres across, once watched over the road between Meung-sur-Loire and Orléans. A rectangular three storey building, it comes into view at the end of a long tree lined drive beyond a wrought iron gate bearing its name. Its history runs through the monks of the Micy abbey, the chapter of Orléans cathedral, and a series of owning families, among them the archaeologist Ernest Pillon, who uncovered the foundations of the former tower.
