To make a day of it

Château de Kerguéhennec stands in Bignan (Morbihan), in the Bretagne region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first quarter of the 18th century, second half of the 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

At the heart of Morbihan, the Kerguéhennec estate combines an early 18th century château with a park planted with trees from other continents and an open-air contemporary sculpture trail. The central building, flanked by two pavilions, was designed by the Vannes architect Olivier Delourme before undergoing a major restoration in the late 19th century led by the architect Trilhe. Visitors come as much for the architecture and outbuildings as for the 175 hectares of woods, ponds and meadows scattered with contemporary artworks.

What to know

  • The château itself is currently closed for renovation work, so the visit is limited to the exterior and the park.
  • The sculpture park and arboretum cover 175 hectares, which means a fairly long walk to see the grounds in full.
  • The château and its outbuildings have been listed as historic monuments since 1988, with the park registered the same year.
  • The grounds can be visited in any season, with outdoor exhibitions and garden events held at certain times of year.
