To make a day of it

Château de Juvisy stands in Juvisy-sur-Orge (Essonne), in the Île-de-France region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Juvisy no longer stands: it once rose on the hillside above the left bank of the Seine, in Juvisy-sur-Orge, facing a view said to be unmatched between river and countryside. Probably built in the 17th century on the remains of a former monastery, it owed its fame to its terraced gardens, attributed to André Le Nôtre, which ran down to the river through a system of cascades and grottoes inspired by Vaux-le-Vicomte. The estate was subdivided and built over from the late 19th into the early 20th century, and the château itself disappeared. Traces of this layout can still be found within the modern neighbourhood.
