What the French Ministry of Culture records

Vestiges du château médiéval construit aux alentours de 1240-1245 par l'évêque de Metz, Jacques de Lorraine. Propriété des évêques de Metz jusqu'en 1572, il est vendu au duc de Lorraine en 1581 et a été agrandi à la fin du XVIe siècle et au début du XVIIe siècle. Ruiné par la guerre de Trente Ans puis au début du XVIIIe siècle, il a été presque entièrement détruit vers 1735. Il en subsiste quelques vestiges : pans de murs derrière le cimetière de la collégiale, bastion rue Sainte-Catherine.
