In Ham, in the Somme department, the ruins of a medieval fortress stand beside the Somme canal, marked by a turbulent history that ended with their destruction by German forces in 1917. The site preserves the memory of its use as a state prison, where Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte was notably held before his escape in 1846. Only the square entrance tower and remnants of the outer walls remain today, traces of what was once one of the region's major strongholds.
