What the French Ministry of Culture records

L'ancien château fut détruit en 1917 par l'armée allemande. La comtesse du Moustier, descendante du marquis de Caulaincourt, ambassadeur de Napoléon Ier à Saint-Pétersbourg, confia à l'architecte russe Beloborodoff le soin de construire un nouveau château entre 1930 et 1933 et d'aménager un parc sur le site naturel de l'étang et des bois de Caulaincourt. C'est une demeure néo-classique tant extérieurement qu'intérieurement s'inspirant à la fois des palais de Saint-Pétersbourg (revêtement de couleur) et de Palladio. Le château fut meublé avec le mobilier Empire réalisé pour la demeure russe du marquis de Caulaincourt et avec un mobilier Art-Déco créé par l'architecte lui-même. Celui-ci conçut pour le parc une composition très simple de pelouses, d'allées et de portiques ornés de vases assurant le lien entre le bâti et le site naturel du grand étang et des bois. Dans le cimetière de Caulaincourt, se trouve le mausolée d'Adrienne de Caulaincourt. C'est un édifice de plan circulaire, édifié vers 1876, construit en brique et coiffé d'une coupole en zinc.
