To make a day of it

Château-fort de Péronne stands in Péronne (Somme), in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In Péronne, the four sandstone towers of the medieval castle still overlook the town and the Cam pond. A royal residence as early as Merovingian times, the site took its present form in the early 13th century under Philip Augustus, built in the characteristic Philippian style of round towers and brick walls. Two kings of France were held prisoner here, Charles the Simple and later Louis XI, giving these stones a rare historical weight. Since 1992 the castle has served as the entrance to the Historial de la Grande Guerre museum.
