In Péronne, in the Somme department, three towers and the connecting walls remain from a medieval castle, the site of the 1468 meeting between Louis XI and Charles the Bold. These ruins now stand alongside the Historial de la Grande Guerre, a museum devoted to the First World War whose modern white concrete building was designed as an extension of the old fortress. A visit therefore combines a fragment of medieval military architecture with a museum trail on the Battle of the Somme.
