What the French Ministry of Culture records

Ce château médiéval (la tour à bossages est de la fin du 13e siècle, et la chapelle de la fin du 15e siècle début du 16e siècle) a été restauré au 19e siècle et habité par la famille Aguado (très liée à l'Impératrice Eugénie), jusqu'en 1868. Il a été restauré dans le style troubadour, reconstitution souvent attribuée à Viollet-le-Duc qui serait intervenu à la demande du comte Olympio Aguado. L'édifice présente une enceinte cantonnée, à ses quatre angles, par des tours circulaires. Le château conserve une tour à bossages rustiques, édifiée à la fin du 13e siècle, exceptionnelle dans le Berry où ce type de parement fut rare au Moyen Age. La courtine proche de cette tour garde les traces de l'entrée primitive du château, avec pont-levis à flèches (14e ou 15e siècle) et l'ancienne chapelle qui lui fait suite au nord.
