To make a day of it
Château de Génat stands in Génat (Ariège), in the Occitanie region of France. No visits are on record for this building.
At the place known as Le Castel, in the commune of Génat in the Ariège region, only traces remain of a former medieval castrum, sometimes referred to as the château de Roquemaure. The site's interest lies in its history rather than in standing remains: occupation since Gallo-Roman times, a possible Saracen origin in the 8th century, then fortification tied to the lordship of Quié and the county of Foix. Records mention the place from the 12th century onward, before it vanishes from the texts after the 14th century, possibly destroyed after sheltering Cathars.
