Château de Calamès stands in Bédeilhac-et-Aynat (Ariège), in the Occitanie region of France. No visits are on record for this building.
Perched over 1,000 metres above sea level on its limestone outcrop, Calamès castle overlooks the Saurat valley south of Foix, in the Ariège region. Built in the 13th century by the counts of Foix, this fortified stronghold never housed any noble family nor endured a siege, serving mainly as a watchtower guarding the Port pass and the Bédeilhac cave. What remains today is a keep and a large hall set against the cliff, remnants of a stark military architecture built from the very stone of the site. The rock now draws both history enthusiasts and climbers.
