What the French Ministry of Culture records

Les parties anciennes sont les restes des constructions entreprises par Florentin Girard, seigneur de Barenton, avec l'autorisation du baron de Bron, son suzerain, obtenue le 29 avril 1493. Elles datent des environs de l'an 1500. Les restes de l'entrée présentent une porte et, entre deux tourelles, façade et fenêtres portant des ornements Renaissance. Les tourelles portent une galerie saillante de mâchicoulis, surmontée d'un toit, reliant l'entrée à l'angle nord. La façade conserve les baies du pont-levis utilisé avant comblement du fossé, en 1824. Le château était entouré d'un étang artificiel. Il était de forme carrée avec deux grosses tours d'angle et une échauguette. Sur l'ancienne basse-cour s'élèvent les communs remaniés aux 17e et 18e siècles. En avant du château est tracé un jardin à la française avec terrasses, allée, perrons, statues du 18e siècle et canal d'eaux vives.
