Château de Crissay stands in Crissay-sur-Manse (Indre-et-Loire), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 14th century, fourth quarter of the 15th century, 16th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
What the French Ministry of Culture records
Le château de Crissay est une construction complexe résultant de plusieurs campagnes rapprochées de constructions et de destructions. L'édifice actuel, dans sa majeure partie, a été construit à la fin du 15e siècle. Le projet initial ne semble pas avoir été réalisé entièrement. Par son apparence générale et son décor, le château présente des dispositions archaïques qu'on aurait tendance à dater plus haut dans le siècle. L'étude dendrochronologique de 1991 a montré qu'une grande partie des échantillons (poutres du plafond du deuxième étage et combles) avaient étés abattus entre 1495 et 1496. Cet édifice présente des dispositions très bien conservées dans sa distribution (grande salle ayant conservé une partie de son décor et ses huisseries d'origine, cheminée monumentale à décor architecturé, plafond composé de soliveaux posés sur l'angle pour soutenir des dalles de pierres trapézoïdales, etc.). Cet édifice, qui semble n'avoir jamais été achevé, est accompagné d'une chapelle du premier tiers du 16e siècle, transformée en grange dès avant la Révolution. Les communs, adoptant un plan en L et modifiés intérieurement, sont probablement l'ancienne maison noble du 14e siècle. Ils étaient encore habités après l'édification du nouveau château si l'on considère qu'un nouveau décor a été plaqué sur la façade dans la deuxième partie du 16e siècle.
