The ruins of Châtillon castle stand on a rocky spur at 862 metres above sea level, overlooking the village of Châtillon-sur-Cluses in Haute-Savoie. Built as early as the 12th century, the fortress was long the residence of the lords of Faucigny before coming under Savoyard rule, and was gradually abandoned after the 16th century. What remains today are traces of several enclosures, a keep and a lordly dwelling, giving a sense of the scale of the original medieval complex.
