Château de Budos stands in Budos (Gironde), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first half of the 14th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
What the French Ministry of Culture records
Château édifié au début du 14e siècle par Raymond Guilhem de Budos, grâce à une dotation de son oncle, le pape Clément V, sur une pente dominant la vallée du Ciron. Il demeura la propriété des seigneurs de Budos de 1306 à 1571. Une enceinte rectangulaire munie de tours d'angle rondes entourait les bâtiments d'habitation. La fortification est entourée de profondes douves et précédée d'une barbacane. Par sa situation, ce château joua un rôle important pendant la guerre de Cent Ans, les guerres de Religion et la Fronde. Démantelé sous la Révolution, il fut abandonné et servit de carrière ; il dut son sauvetage à Léon Drouyn qui en fit plusieurs dessins et gravures en 1841.
