The château de Beaurepaire no longer stands: this estate, located in the commune of Lisses in the Essonne department, was built at the end of the 16th century by the Langlois family before becoming, in the following century, one of the most admired classical properties in the region, its gardens attributed to Le Nôtre. Torn down stone by stone in 1825 on the orders of its last owner, Baron Michau de Montaran, who could no longer afford its upkeep, only fragments remain in the landscape today. Visitors can still make out outbuildings, entrance moats, a semicircular terrace at the far end of the park, and sections of enclosure walls.
