To make a day of it

Château de Ballaison stands in Ballaison (Haute-Savoie), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Ballaison stood from the 11th century until its destruction in 1591, on a hill above the Vions stream, northeast of Geneva. As the seat of a comital castellany contested between the counts of Geneva and the House of Savoy, it was razed by Genevan forces during the wars of religion. On its site, the château de Thénières was built in 1863 by Ernest de Boigne, an entirely separate building with no architectural link to the medieval fortress. No visible trace of the original stronghold remains today.
