At Bournan, the château de Bagneux still stands on a limestone spur with two of its original four towers, remnants of a fortress built between the 13th and 15th centuries. The conical slate roofs and surviving machicolations recall its defensive purpose, while the mullioned windows show its later shift toward a more residential use. Visitors come for the medieval military architecture and the commanding position the site once held, said to have communicated by fire signals with Loches.
