To make a day of it

Château d'Hénencourt stands in Hénencourt (Somme), in the Hauts-de-France region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In the Somme, close to Albert, the château d'Hénencourt stands as the remains of a residence built in the 17th century by the de Lameth family, later reworked in a classical style a century on. Its ionic peristyle and the sculpted pediment bearing the Lameth coat of arms earned it the nickname of the little Picard Versailles. The west wing, destroyed during the First World War when a British mine tunnel collapsed and set off an explosion, was never rebuilt, and its ruins now stand beside the surviving central block and east wing. A dovecote decorated with unicorns and the remnants of the park complete the estate, which has stayed in the same family since it was first built.
