To make a day of it
Château d'Auriac stands in Auriac (Aude), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 11th century, 12th century). No visits are on record for this building.
Perched on a rocky spur in the Corbières, the ruins of Auriac castle overlook the upper Orbieu valley, close to a waterfall that drops in three stages into the ravine below. First recorded in 1028 and tied to the history of the counts of Carcassonne and the archbishops of Narbonne, the structure still shows two enclosures, a collapsed keep, an entrance tower and traces of a hall rebuilt in the 15th century. The setting itself, a narrow rock platform between road and cliff, is as much the draw as the stonework.
