What the French Ministry of Culture records

La seigneurie d'Hontanx est attestée dès le début du XIIe siècle, et son château mentionné pour la première fois en 1279. Alors que la chapelle castrale Saint-Blaise date de la fin du XIe ou du début du XIIe siècle et fut agrandie au XIVe siècle, la maison forte a vraisemblablement été bâtie vers 1300, à l'emplacement d'un bâtiment en bois. Les deux bâtiments s'élèvent sur une motte castrale. Au XVIIe ou XVIIIe siècle, un corps de logis est adjoint à la maison forte. La mairie, propriétaire, a aujourd'hui un projet de restauration et réutilisation de la maison forte.
