> La seigneurie d'Hontanx est attestée dès le début du XIIe siècle, et son château mentionné pour la première fois en 1279. Alors que la chapelle castrale Saint-Blaise date de la fin du XIe ou du début du XIIe siècle et fut agrandie au XIVe siècle, la maison forte a vraisemblablement été bâtie vers 1300, à l'emplacement d'un bâtiment en bois. Les deux bâtiments s'élèvent sur une motte castrale. Au XVIIe ou XVIIIe siècle, un corps de logis est adjoint à la maison forte. La mairie, propriétaire, a aujourd'hui un projet de restauration et réutilisation de la maison forte.
