To make a day of it

Château d'Alco stands in Montpellier (Hérault), in the Occitanie region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Château d'Alco is a small countryside folly built around 1740 near Montpellier for the tax farmer Antoine-Samuel Bonnier, from whom it takes its name. Standing on a hill northwest of the city, the building is notably restrained compared with other follies in the region: a modest main block, fronted by a wide flight of steps and marked by a curved pediment. The terraced gardens, linked by a double staircase and adorned with basins, remain open to the public today, even though the vineyards that once surrounded them have given way to urban development.
