Le nom de Val au Houx est une altération de Val au Houlle du nom de la famille du Houlle qui tenait le manoir au 15e siècle. Le manoir est situé au flanc d'un coteau assez pentu dominant un vallon vers le sud. L'élévation antérieure est au nord et donne sur une vaste cour fermée par des bâtiments de dépendances et des murs. Le manoir comprend trois corps de logis alignés au sud de la cour face à l'entrée ; deux corps de logis du 15e siècle ont conservé leur volume d'origine et les charpentes sont en place. L'autre corps de logis serait de la fin du 16e siècle, d'après la mouluration des baies.
