At Saint-Yvy, in Finistère, the Toulgoat manor house keeps a fortified sixteenth-century gateway that has weathered the centuries better than the rest of the dwelling. It still shows a watchtower pierced with arquebus slits and a machicolated gallery, once topped with crenellations removed under Louis XIII. The coat of arms of the Salou de Toulgoat family, three boar heads, is carved into that same gateway. The estate remains privately owned and is currently being restored.
