In Concarneau, the château de Kériolet owes its appearance to an unusual love story: a French officer became a count through marriage to a wealthy Russian princess, and had a modest Breton manor rebuilt into a neo-gothic residence inspired by Blois and Pierrefonds. Visitors can see the guard room, its stained-glass windows depicting French kings, and its carved oak ceiling modelled on the one in Reims, along with a park filled with statues recalling Breton history. The L-shaped main building, its towers and its moat-lined courtyard reflect a construction project that stretched across twenty years.
