At Écots, in the commune of L'Oudon in Calvados, the manor of Houlbec stands with four corner towers rising above water-filled moats. The square main building combines a ground floor of limestone rubble with a timber-framed upper storey, and the towers themselves differ from one façade to the next: hexagonal timber-framed tops on the east side, a round conical-roofed tower and a squarish keep-like one on the west. Surrounding outbuildings include a dovecote, a wine press, a cellar and a bread oven, remnants of a working farm still in place today.
