In Saint-Julien-de-Concelles, in the Loire-Atlantique region, the Meslerie gentilhommière is a country house completed in 1820 on an estate whose origins go back to the 17th century. Its distinctive feature is a circular drawing room that projects in a half-circle on the rear facade, combined with a front elevation of Doric half-columns topped by Ionic pilasters, in the neo-Greek taste. A chapel older than the house itself, dated 1701 and dedicated to Saint Catherine, still holds a stucco and marble altarpiece despite damage suffered during the French Revolution. The estate passed through several Nantes families, including that of Gérald Van der Kemp, who kept a lasting attachment to it.
