Built in 1770 for Joseph Charette de Briord on the remains of a medieval seigneurial seat dating back to the 13th century, the château de Briord stands in Port-Saint-Père. It passed through several hands, Nantes shipowners, the Comte de Lautrec who added a tower around 1860, then the Étienne and Say families, before being acquired in 2022 by an owner intent on restoring it without turning it into a hotel. The facades, roofs and interior staircase with its wrought iron railing are listed as historic monuments. A visit offers a view of an estate still being brought back to life, rather than a fixed museum display.
