In Maurepas, a cylindrical keep twenty metres high stands on a low mound, the sole remnant of a fortified castle built during the first half of the twelfth century. The original stronghold, linked to the Malrepast family and later the lords of Chevreuse, suffered through the Hundred Years' War before being dismantled by the English in 1432. Only the tower remains today, standing close to a farm, a trace of a turbulent feudal past.
