To make a day of it
Wolfenburg stands in Kelsterbach (Landkreis Groß-Gerau), in Hesse, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
The Wolfenburg was a Renaissance château built in Kelsterbach between 1564 and 1580 for Count Wolfgang von Ysenburg-Ronneburg, designed by the master builder Georg Rubin. The structure, with its four corner towers, stood north of the village near the bank of the Main river. Looted and badly damaged during the Thirty Years' War, it was never restored and gradually fell into ruin. What remains to be seen today is not the château itself but the site that succeeded it, a Classicist town villa built in the early 19th century.
