To make a day of it
Wasserschloss Hehlen stands in Hehlen (Landkreis Holzminden), in Lower Saxony, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
The Wasserschloss Hehlen rises beside the Weser river, at the point where the Weißenwasser stream joins it, in the village of Hehlen. Built between 1579 and 1584 for Colonel Fritz von der Schulenburg and his wife Ilse von Saldern, it ranks among the earliest buildings of the Weser Renaissance style. Its square four-wing layout, ringed by a water-filled moat, still carries two corner round towers with bulbous roofs and limestone rubble walls now left unplastered. In the inner courtyard, a double portrait of the builders and their combined coat of arms still crown two round-arched gateways.
