To make a day of it

Wasserburg Schwarzach stands in Schwarzach (Neckar-Odenwald-Kreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Wasserburg Schwarzach stands at the edge of Schwarzacherhof, a district of the municipality of Schwarzach in the Neckar-Odenwald-Kreis. Probably built in the early 14th century for the Bishopric of Worms, it passed through several hands before falling into disrepair during the Thirty Years' War. Rebuilt in 1780 and again in 1800, it took the shape of a manor house that today serves as a state forestry office. From the original moated castle, a remnant of a corner tower, a small defensive turret resting on corbels, walls, outbuildings and the moats themselves have survived.

What to know

  • The building currently serves as a state forestry office and is not set up for tourist visits.
  • The main house is reached via a stone bridge crossing the former moat.
  • Only exterior remnants of the old fortification, a tower stump, a small turret, walls, outbuildings and the moats, can be observed from outside.
  • With no opening hours or admission fees published, the site should be regarded as viewable only from the outside.
