First documented in 1228 in connection with the lords of Lengefeld, it passed through several hands over the centuries, including the counts of Waldeck and later various private families. The old square keep, with walls about two metres thick, survives hidden inside the present manor house, though nothing on the outside reveals it. The property is now privately owned and cannot be visited inside.
