Turmhügelburg Lütjenburg stands in Lütjenburg (Kreis Plön), in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Turmhügelburg Lütjenburg is not an original ruin but a reconstruction: since 2003 an association has been rebuilding, using experimental archaeology methods and in cooperation with the Schleswig-Holstein state archaeological office, a type of fortified site typical of the Wagrien region in the 12th and 13th centuries. The complex follows the layout of a motte with its bailey: a tall wooden tower on an earthen mound, surrounded by a water-filled moat crossed by a bridge, together with a dwelling and stable building, a large farm building, a forge, a bakehouse, a well and a small chapel modelled on a northern German example. The buildings are not mere stage sets but are kept in working order and used as part of the museum's living-history activities, including an active forge and bakehouse.

What to know

This is an experimental-archaeology reconstruction rather than a surviving medieval building.
The site is open year-round, with limited access during the winter months.
Guided tours are offered.
In summer, members of medieval re-enactment associations in period dress bring the buildings to life using period tools.
The site also hosts medieval markets and, by arrangement, weddings in the chapel.
