To make a day of it
Schloss Plön stands in Plön (Kreis Plön), in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Adult admission costs 5 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Plön overlooks Lake Plön from the only hilltop site in all of Schleswig-Holstein to bear a castle. Built as the residence of the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Plön during the Thirty Years War, it went up in a mere three years on the site of an older stronghold. After decades of use as a cadet school and later a boarding school, the building has belonged since 2002 to the Fielmann Akademie, which converted it into a training centre for optometry and hearing care. Long closed to the public, it now admits visitors only on a limited basis.
