To make a day of it

Turmhügel Laichstätt stands in Cham (Landkreis Cham), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 11th century. No visits are on record for this building.

The Turmhügel Laichstätt is what remains of a medieval motte, an earthen mound that once carried a wooden or stone tower, standing by the Regen river on the northern edge of the Laichstätt district of Cham in Bavaria. Built in the 12th century, it is thought to have been the seat of a ministerial family connected to the Diepoldinger lineage, later serving as a watch post into the late Middle Ages. Only a flattened mound about 14 metres wide at the base and now barely more than a metre high survives today. It is best approached as a piece of archaeological landscape rather than a standing building.
