To make a day of it
Schloss Wendhausen stands in Lehre (Landkreis Helmstedt), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 17th century. No visits are on record for this building.
Wendhausen Castle stands on the site of a medieval stronghold first recorded in the 14th century, surrounded by a moat fed by the Schunter river. The present three-wing building was erected between 1683 and 1688 for Philipp Ludwig Probst, chancellor of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, on the foundations of the earlier fortress. In the following century Konrad Detlev von Dehn added a baroque pleasure garden to the grounds. A stone bridge crosses the moat to a round-arched gateway leading into the inner courtyard, from which the so-called ducal rooms, with their stuccoed ceilings and panelling, can be reached.
