To make a day of it
Schloss Weißenstein (Württemberg) stands in Lauterstein (Landkreis Göppingen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Weißenstein rises above the hamlet of the same name in the municipality of Lauterstein, on a rocky spur that once carried a stronghold first recorded in 1241, now vanished. The present building dates from the 15th century and was reshaped in the 17th and 19th centuries by the von Rechberg family, who added stepped gables, turrets and galleries. Visitors can see a chapel first mentioned in 1471, with an altar bearing the combined coats of arms of the Rechberg and Bömelberg families, and the covered passage that once linked the castle to the neighbouring parish church. A memorial plaque recalls that in 1941 the building was used as forced housing for Jewish families, almost all of whom perished in the Holocaust.
