To make a day of it

Schloss Waldburg stands in Waldburg (Landkreis Ravensburg), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Waldburg crowns a 772 metre drumlin in Upper Swabia, the ancestral seat since the 11th century of the Waldburg family, hereditary stewards of the Holy Roman Empire. Substantially rebuilt in the 16th century under Georg IV von Waldburg into a palace-like residence, it is still commonly called a Burg. Inside, a museum traces the family's history and the development of land surveying, including a facsimile of Martin Waldseemüller's 1507 world map, the first to name America. A viewing platform on the roof gives sweeping views that reach, in clear weather, toward the Alps.

Yes, it houses a museum on the family's history and on land surveying, along with a rooftop viewing platform.
Why is it called a castle (Burg) if it looks like a palace (Schloss)?
Originally built as a Burg in the 11th century, it was transformed into a palace-like residence in the 16th century, but the old name stuck in everyday use.
Can Mont Blanc really be seen from Schloss Waldburg?
No, this long-standing claim, based on a 19th-century panoramic drawing, actually refers to a different, much closer peak in the Bernese Alps.

It is a facsimile of a 1507 printed world map, the first to use the name America.
