Schloss Wachendorf stands in Mechernich, in the Kreis Euskirchen, on the site of a former knights' seat first recorded in the twelfth century. Its present appearance, with three storeys, a tall mansard roof and a six-storey central tower, took shape around 1780 and was further reworked in 1883 in the style of a maison de plaisance. Remnants of the earlier fortification's earthworks and moats still surround part of the building, which now holds around sixty rooms. The property is used today for civil wedding ceremonies and houses a Zen temple.
